arth loaf, the Chocolate Factory– NAVILUNA is located in the Hebbal industrial estate, an industrial zone at the fringe of the city of Mysore, located 140 km from Bengaluru, extending with stunning views with Hebbal Lake as the backdrop. The client’s brief called for a landscape-oriented footprint of approximately 35000 sq. ft on a 1-acre land.

VISION...

With this space, the Bengaluru based design company Rubenius aims to connect the customer with the company’s core philosophies, allowing them to step into the company’s shoes to experience the joy of creating chocolates and sharing the journey – from bean to bar.

Earth Loaf, a chocolate experience centre in Mysore, Karnataka exhibits a set of landscape and interior design narratives that exemplify the manufacturing process of chocolate, its by-products and retail activities through sustainable solutions incorporated into the landscape design and architecture.

OVERVIEW

The design process for Earth Loaf started with incorporating the client’s work belief ‘Bean-to-bar’ to the overall masterplan ideation with incorporation of heritage and cultural details. The spatial theme was interpreted around concepts dealing with the characteristics of chocolate, sustainable development, healthy workplace and its impact on humankind. The zen-inspired dry landscape is attributed to the health benefits of chocolate, green landscape and water bodies to the calming effects of chocolate and flowering plants and creepers to the variety and excitement factors associated with chocolate. The supporting service systems integrated are solar panels and smart drip irrigation – solar panels to address energy conservation in machines and other entities consuming large amounts of electricity and smart drip irrigation to control usage and wastage of water.

Vernacular elements such as terracotta tile flooring, Mangalore tile roofing, cane furniture, pergola and shaded areas made of natural elements and Indian inspired art are consciously designed to reflect the regional and cultural identity also adding to aesthetics.

CONCLUSION

Taking a step towards conscious landscaping and sustainable design, the Earth Loaf- Naviluna Campus by the award winning firm Rubenius is one of its kind, offering visitors the experience of the chocolates combined with the location’s rich culture and heritage.
